Cable Pullover

The cable pullover, also known as a cable lat pullover, is a highly effective lat exercise that keeps constant tension on the back while moving through a long, controlled range of motion. Using the Andreoni Bar creates a unique variation by allowing you to rest your forearms directly on the bar. This gives you a stable contact point, reduces the need to concentrate on gripping, and makes it easier to focus on isolating the lats throughout the movement.

How to Do the Cable Pullover

Set the cable high and position yourself far enough from the machine to create tension with your arms extended.

Rest your forearms on the Andreoni Bar and maintain a slight hinge through the hips. Keeping your elbows relatively fixed, drive your upper arms downward using your lats. Continue the movement until you reach a strong contraction, then slowly return to the stretched position.

Focus on controlling both directions of the movement rather than simply moving more weight.

Why the Andreoni Bar Makes Cable Pullovers Different

The Andreoni Bar changes the way the cable pullover feels.

Instead of gripping a rope or straight bar, your forearms can rest directly on the bar. This gives you better control of the movement and allows you to concentrate more on driving with the lats instead of holding onto the attachment.

The bar’s cambered design also allows it to travel naturally around your body rather than stopping against your torso.

That additional travel creates a greater range of motion, allowing you to move farther through the bottom of the exercise for a stronger lat contraction while still getting a deep stretch at the top.

The result is a smooth, controlled cable lat pullover with excellent lat isolation and a long movement path.

Muscles Worked

The cable pullover primarily targets the:

  • Latissimus dorsi
  • Teres major
  • Upper-back stabilizers
  • Long head of the triceps
  • Core stabilizers

Because the elbows remain relatively fixed, the exercise reduces the amount of biceps involvement compared with many other back exercises.

A Customer-Favorite Andreoni Bar Exercise

The cable pullover has become one of the favorite exercises among Andreoni Bar users because of the combination of forearm support, control, extended range of motion and strong lat contraction.

The movement also became popular after Home Gym Hacks and Reviews (HGHR) demonstrated this unique way of performing the exercise with the Andreoni Bar.

Cable Pullover Training Tip

Use a weight you can control through the entire movement. The goal is not to move the heaviest possible resistance.

Focus on a deep lat stretch, a smooth pull, and a strong lat contraction at the bottom of each repetition.
